What is Leaky Gut?

Leaky gut has been receiving a lot of attention in the last year, but what is it? Researchers have theorized that leaky gut occurs when partially digested proteins and fats leak from your digestive system and cause inflammation in your body. Inflammation, or an allergic response, can lead to bloating, thyroid problems, fatigue, joint pain, digestive issues, food sensitivities, and a host of other unpleasant symptoms.

Why it's important:

No one enjoys dealing with bloating, fatigue, or food sensitivities, but the real reason leaky gut has become such a big problem is that, if left untreated, it can lead to inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, and even chronic fatigue syndrome. Lectin, gluten, and sugar have been identified as the three main factors in the development of leaky gut. These three substances can affect the bacteria in your gut, promote inflammation in your intestines, and even cause micro-tears that lead to leaky gut.

Next Steps:

If you'd like to learn more about leaky gut and what you can do to prevent it, I invite you to join our next free workshop, "Eliminate Digestive Problems," on Thursday, November 21st at 5:30 at Alinea Health & Posture.
